So, I checked out The Little Gym of Houston with my little munchkin, and it was a mix of fun and, well, some questionable baby exercise moves. We jumped into the Babies class, meant for tiny ones from 4 months to the crawling stage. They promised to fast-track the whole walking and crawling thing, but honestly, I’m not in a rush for my baby to start sprinting around 😅.
We rolled—front, back, and side—did wheelbarrows to beef up those baby biceps, threw in some standing exercises, and even had a core workout where we sat our babes on a ball and played move-around. Oh, and there was singing involved, because why not?
Now, the big question: Is this necessary? Probably not. Babies tend to figure out the walking and crawling gig on their own schedule. But, hey, it wasn’t all bad. I got to share laughs with another mom friend, and that’s worth something, right?
As for a round two, here’s the snag—they’re all about memberships. Twice a week for baby classes seems a bit much for my liking, and they’re pushing this $110/month deal for unlimited classes. Seems more like a setup for parents with older kids who can handle that kind of commitment. I’m more of a spontaneous drop-in kinda parent.
So, in a nutshell, The Little Gym was a decent time with some laughs and potential perks, but the membership thing might be a deal-breaker for those of us just trying to wing this whole parenting thing without a rigid schedule.
Tiffs verdict: 6/10 (for babies)
To break free from home routine and connect with other parents, I ventured into Prelude Music Classes with my now 4-month-old. It turned out to be quite a delightful experience – intimate class sizes ranging from 3 to 5 families, a charming teacher guiding us on effective ways to play, sing, and dance with our little ones. I joined the baby class (0 months to crawling), but they’ve got options for older kids too. The only downside? It leaned on the pricey side at $40 per class, with a commitment to 10 classes. However, you can dip your toes with a trial class before committing. With two locations in Houston, I’ve wrapped up the first semester, and I’m seriously considering signing up for the next one. The social interactions and varied play styles offered a refreshing break from the usual home activities. Admittedly, it felt more like an experience for the parents than the babies – don’t expect your little one to leave playing a musical instrument, though!
Tiffs verdict: 8/10
